Questions
Short answers, in plain words. Anything else: ask us.
- What is Gusset?
- A personal logbook for the work experience you need before you can apply for your licence. You tell it what you did today, in a sentence, and it keeps a dated, tidy record against the competencies or kinds of work your regulator or state board looks at.
- How does it work?
- You type or dictate a sentence or two about your day. Gus, the assistant, files it as an entry with a title, a date, the hours you gave and the competencies it seems to show, and asks one or two short questions if something important is missing, like what you decided or which code you worked to. You review every entry and change anything you like.
- Does it write my application for me?
- No. Gusset keeps your record and, on Pro, drafts write-ups from your own entries so you have a starting point. You review, edit and sign everything yourself, and you copy it into your regulator's portal yourself. Gusset never submits anything to anyone.
- Is it accurate?
- Gus is AI, and AI drafts can be wrong: a date, a sum, a competency that doesn't fit. Every draft is labelled, and nothing is sent anywhere until you have read it. Competency lists in Gusset are our summaries of what regulators publish; your regulator's own current rules are the only authority.
- Which regulators does it cover?
- Canada: the shared competency-based assessment used in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island (34 competencies), with Ontario and Alberta filed against the same list for now. United States: the kinds of work in the NCEES Model Law, for state boards. Gusset isn't offered in Québec yet. Gusset is independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by any regulator or NCEES.
- What does it cost?
- Free: your first 20 entries are filed by Gus, and plain logging stays free after that. Pro, which files every entry and drafts your write-ups, is C$25 a month or C$250 a year in Canada and US$20 a month or US$200 a year in the United States, plus tax where applicable. The first 500 paying members get a founding price (C$15 / C$150, US$12 / US$120) for as long as they stay subscribed. Pro renews until you cancel, and you cancel in Settings in one step.
- Where is my record stored, and who can see it?
- In Canada, with each account able to read only its own rows. Nobody at Gusset reads your entries. Your words go to Anthropic in the United States to draft each entry, under terms that don't allow training on them. We never sell your information or use it for advertising.
- Can I attach drawings, photos or reports?
- No. Gusset takes words only, so nothing confidential ends up here by accident. Say what the document showed in a sentence, and keep it generic: no client names or confidential details.
- What if I change jobs?
- Your record is yours, not your employer's. Sign up with a personal email or a personal Google or Microsoft account, and it stays with you. You can change your sign-in email in Settings at any time, and export everything whenever you like.
- Does it send anything to my regulator or my supervisor?
- No. Gusset is personal: there are no supervisor accounts and no sign-off inside it. Each entry can name your supervising engineer so your record is ready when you apply, and that's all.
- Can I use it on my phone?
- Yes. It works in any modern browser, and you can add it to your home screen on an iPhone or Android phone so it opens like an app. Typing and voice notes both work.
- How do I get my data out, or delete it?
- Settings > Export gives your entries as a spreadsheet and your drafts as documents; Download my data gives everything in one file. Delete account removes your account and everything in it at once.
